A fabulous, and quite rare, antique studded deerskin covered trunk with original deerskin in great antique condition. Featuring solid wood construction, deerskin hide covering the exterior, brass studs with leather trim, a domed lid, wrought iron handles, and parts of the internal blue paper lining, this deer hide trunk is quite a beauty. With wooden runners forming the base and part of the Edinburgh paper label still intact. As a rustic chic storage chest it will undoubtedly look great on display in your home and serve a unique storage piece at the same time!
Hide covered trunks were made through the first half of the 1800s, and prior to the 1800s were not typically lined. It’s therefore estimated that this trunk was made in the first half of the 1800s.
