"I have already known how fortunate I was to live and work in Arbroath through school and college years. It was a rich environment, a sea town with harbours and related architecture, with imagery of trawler and fisherman and with a constant awareness for the sea. It provided romantic subject matter and invited painters to observe, to translate, to transform and to find the elusive pleasure of picture painting."
